One
of a group of rising young singers embarking on important operatic
careers, Kyungsun Choi was a Grand Finalist in the 2000 Metropolitan
Opera National Council Auditions. She made her
debut in 2001 as Violetta in La Traviata with
Virginia Opera and sang the role of Ilia in Mozart’s Idomeneo for
her Town Hall debut. Most recently, Ms. Choi appeared with
New York City Opera in their Composor’s Showcase, with the
Stamford Symphony as soprano soloist in Haydn’s Theresian
Mass and in Poland with Mid-America Productions, singing
the title role in Rossini’s Ermione to critical
acclaim. She also appeared at Carnegie Hall as the soprano
soloist in the Faure Requiem under conductor John
Rutter.
Ms.
Choi made her Alice Tully Hall recital debut as a winner in the
2000 Liederkranz Foundation Competition. She was also
the First Prize Winner at the New Jersey State Opera Competition,
the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition and received a Hugh Ross
Award from the Sullivan Foundation.
Her
opera roles have included La Comtesse in Le
Comte Ory, Musetta in La Boheme, Juliette in Romeo
and Juliet, Pamina in Die
Zauberflote, Susanna in Le
Nozze di Figaro, Pedrillo in Don
Quichotte, Blanche in Les Dialogues
des Carmelites and Lucia in Lucia
diLammermoor at the John Harm Center
in concert with the New Jersey Korean Symphony Orchestra. She
has also covered the roles of Norina, Zerlina and Micaela at
Virginia Opera.
Ms.
Choi, received her Professional Studies Certificate and Master
of Voice degree from the Manhattan School of Music. She
completed her undergraduate degree at Han Yang University in
Seoul, Korea. Ms.
Choi resides in New York City. |
